Historical mystery adventure for readers aged 12+

Head off on a whirlwind tour of 1930s Europe with Stateless by Elizabeth Wein, which comes with an accompanying activity pack, which we created for Parrot Street Book Club subscribers in April 2023.

We love the historical backdrop to this gripping murder mystery, not to mention the inspiring lead character, 17-year-old female aviator Stella North, and the thrilling adventure she takes us on!

~Sarah

In 1937, twelve young pilots begin a spectacular air race to promote peace within a divided Europe. Stella North may be the sole female competitor, but she is determined to prove her skill and assert her British identity in spite of her Nansen passport, which declares her stateless. However, on the first leg of the race, Stella is the only witness to a horrifying event where another competitor dies. As the race resumes, she begins her own investigation into the other pilots. Could any of them be capable of murder?

Elizabeth Wein is the owner of a private pilot's license and the owner of about a thousand maps. She is the author of several work of historical fiction for young people. Elizabeth lives in Scotland and holds both British and American citizenship.

The activity pack includes stickers, book club-style questions to ponder and a welcome note from Elizabeth Wein. There’s also a word puzzle to solve and a paper aeroplane craft activity to enjoy, alongside jokes and further reading recommendations.

Activity packs are a handy A5 size and printed on uncoated paper which is fully recyclable.
